Child Counselling and Play Therapy in Abbotsford with Meghan Hanet
Meghan has a deep passion for working with children and their families. She understands that children often communicate their experiences through play rather than words, and she uses developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed approaches to help children process emotions, strengthen regulation skills, and build confidence.
Through play therapy and experiential interventions, Meghan helps children who may be struggling with:
- Anxiety
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Behavioural challenges
- Self-esteem concerns
- Family transitions
- Grief and loss
- Trauma and adverse experiences
- School-related difficulties
- Social challenges
Her work focuses on helping children develop a greater understanding of their emotions while creating opportunities for healing, growth, and stronger relationships.
Drawing on her background in theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences, Meghan brings creativity, imagination, and engagement into her work with children. Her calm and grounded presence helps children feel safe enough to explore difficult emotions and experiences at their own pace.
Supporting Parents and Strengthening Family Relationships
As a family therapist, Meghan recognizes that children thrive when the important adults in their lives feel supported and empowered.
One of her greatest passions is helping parents better understand their child’s emotional world. She works collaboratively with caregivers to identify strengths, navigate parenting challenges, and develop practical strategies that support healthy attachment and connection.
Parents often come to counselling feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or uncertain about how to respond to their child’s needs. Meghan helps families move beyond blame and frustration toward greater understanding, compassion, and confidence.
Her systemic approach considers the unique dynamics within each family and helps create the secure foundation children need to flourish.
Meghan Hanet offers Counselling for Neurodivergent Children and Families
Meghan has experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families, including children with:
- ADHD
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
She takes a strengths-based approach that honours each child’s unique way of experiencing the world. Rather than focusing solely on challenges, Meghan helps children and families recognize existing strengths while developing tools that support emotional well-being, communication, and connection.
She understands the complexities many families face when navigating school systems, social expectations, and daily life challenges, and she strives to create an environment where children feel accepted, understood, and valued.
Teen Counselling for Anxiety, Identity, and Life Challenges
Adolescence can be a time of significant emotional, social, and developmental change. Meghan works with teens who may be struggling with anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation, or life transitions.
She provides a supportive and non-judgmental space where teens can explore their experiences, build coping skills, and strengthen their sense of self.
Using experiential approaches, Meghan helps teens develop greater emotional awareness while learning practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.
Her goal is to help young people feel understood, empowered, and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges.
Individual Counselling for Adults
In addition to her work with children and families, Meghan supports adult individuals experiencing anxiety, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions.
Her counselling approach integrates:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT helps clients understand the emotional patterns that influence their relationships and experiences. This approach supports healing through greater emotional awareness, vulnerability, and connection.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS helps clients explore different parts of themselves with curiosity and compassion. This powerful model supports healing from past wounds while fostering greater self-understanding and self-leadership.
Somatic and Experiential Therapy
Meghan incorporates body-based awareness and experiential interventions to help clients access deeper emotional experiences and create meaningful change.
Her work balances insight-oriented exploration with practical strategies, helping clients address both immediate concerns and long-standing patterns.
